I have been kayaking off and on for years but in truth it had been more off over the last few years. So, a couple years ago we decided to purchase some inflatable two person kayaks, Intex Challenger K2 Inflatable Kayak with Oars and Hand Pump (which I would highly recommend!) and took them out with the kids, everyone loved it! This doesn't always happen with three kids, so we were pleasantly surprised and have been out on the water multiple times a month for most of the year ever since. For me, anything that I can do outdoors and enjoy time in nature with my family and as a bonus, burn a significant number of calories in an hour or two is definitely a win! With that I thought I would give you the following 7 reasons why you should get out and give it a go.

  1. Stress Relief and Relaxation: Kayaking offers a wonderful escape from the daily grind. Getting out on the water allows you to disconnect from technology and immerse yourself in the beauty of nature. The gentle rocking of the kayak, the soothing sound of water lapping against the hull, and the serene surroundings all contribute to a calming experience. It's a chance to forget about your worries, clear your mind, and find a sense of peace.

  2. Versatility: Kayaking is an incredibly versatile activity suitable for all types of individuals. Whether you're seeking a solitary adventure or want to share the experience with friends and family, kayaking accommodates both preferences. You can paddle leisurely along a serene lake by yourself for some alone time, or you can join a group and create lasting memories together.

  3. Physical Fitness and Workout: Despite its tranquil appearance, kayaking can provide an excellent workout. Paddling engages various muscle groups, particularly the back, arms, and core. As you propel the kayak through the water, you burn calories and improve cardiovascular health. The best part is that it feels more like an enjoyable leisure activity than a grueling exercise routine.

  4. Exploring Unseen Territories: Kayaking allows you to access and explore places that might be otherwise inaccessible by land. You can venture into hidden coves, navigate through narrow waterways, and reach secluded spots that few people get to experience. It opens up a whole new world of exploration, letting you connect with nature and witness wildlife up close.

  5. Family-Friendly Activity: Kayaking is an excellent way to bond with your family and introduce your kids to the wonders of nature. Children tend to enjoy the sense of adventure that comes with kayaking, making it an exciting and memorable experience for them. Without even realizing it, they engage in physical activity, fostering a love for outdoor adventures and promoting a healthy lifestyle from a young age.

  6. Weather-Friendly: Unlike some outdoor activities that require specific weather conditions, kayaking can be enjoyed in various weather types. While paddling under a clear blue sky is beautiful, kayaking in overcast or slightly rainy weather can also be a unique and peaceful experience. With proper safety precautions and appropriate gear, you can enjoy kayaking in different seasons and weather conditions.

  7. Cost-Effective Introduction: If you're new to kayaking and unsure about investing in your own equipment, renting is a great option. By renting kayaks, you can "test the waters" and determine if kayaking is something you genuinely enjoy and would like to pursue further. It also allows you to try out different types of kayaks to find the one that best suits your needs and preferences before making a purchase.

In conclusion, kayaking offers so many benefits beyond just being a fun and enjoyable activity. It's an opportunity to relax, exercise, explore, bond with loved ones, and connect with nature in various weather conditions. So, whether you're a beginner or a seasoned enthusiast, kayaking provides an escape from the ordinary and opens the door to a world of unforgettable experiences on the water. Trust me it's a lot of fun and definitely worth a try!
