10 Ways to Get Motivated & Stay Motivated!

  • Make exercise easy! Don't over complicate it. People do this all the time, they set goals or standards that are too hard or just not fun and end up not doing anything at all. When your first starting out or trying to get back into a fitness routine, keep it short and simple maybe 20 minutes a day 3 days a week and then slowly start to increase with time.

  • Make exercise fun! Working out does not need to feel like a grind and it definitely doesn't need to be in a gym! Pick something or multiple things that you enjoy doing and commit to it/them. The more you enjoy what you're doing the more you will do it & the less it will feel like a workout. Before you know it, you have a routine that you are doing multiple times a week and loving it.

  • Don't be afraid to try new things! Not getting stuck in a rut is super important to any good routine, therefore mixing things up and not being afraid to step out of your comfort zone is vital. The more active things you enjoy the more you will do.

  • Set Goals! This one is important, just like in any area of your life that you want to accomplish things in, exercise is the same. If you don't set goals and or ways to track your results, you will most likely get bored of your routine, or it simply will not give you the long-term results, therefore will be easy for you to let go of and throw in the towel. It happens all the time.

  • Find a workout partner! If you know that staying motivated is going to be difficult for you, then finding someone to exercise with will definitely help you succeed. On the days that you just don't feel up to it, knowing that someone is going to be there waiting for you is a great motivator. By keeping each other accountable you are much less likely to let the other person down and therefore less likely to quit or get lazy.

  • Improve how you eat! This one's pretty easy and a good motivator for better habits in general. If you get rid of the junk food and improve your overall eating it will go a long way in helping you be more consistent with your workouts. Basically, you will feel better about the choices you're making which in turn will help to motivate you to want to do more. Not to mention your energy levels will improve significantly if you are fueling your body properly.

  • Water! I cannot stress the importance of proper hydration enough, not just for your exercise routine but your daily routine. Water keeps your body functioning how it is supposed to, so many people are walking around dehydrated every single day. Make sure to drink plenty of water throughout your day, you'll feel a lot better for it.

  • Sleep! This one is extremely important! Getting the right amount of sleep every night and having good and consistent sleep habits will go such a long way to keeping you feeling great. If you want to read a more Indepth post on healthy sleep habits, click here.

  • Stretching! Simple and effective. A good warm up and cool down routine is vital to a good workout routine. Keeping your body running smoothly and free from or at least reducing the number of injuries, aches and pains is so important for the longevity of any fitness plan. If your constantly getting injured, I guarantee it will take all the fun out of your workouts and make it a lot easier to call it quits. A quick 5-10 minutes before and after any physical activity is so worth it.

  • Balance/Go easy on yourself! Remember the key to longevity in most things in life is finding a healthy balance. If your too hard on yourself especially at first it can become more of a grind than it is fun. If you miss a day or two here or there, no big deal the important thing is to get yourself going again and not be too critical of the time off. Learning how to become your own advocate and striking a good balance between keeping motivated and cutting yourself the occasional slack here and there will be the difference between success and failure.

There you go! 10 easy steps to hopefully get you and keep you motivated for the long term. Implement these rules into your daily routine and enjoy your workouts!!
